Cultural Exchange Classroom Benefits For Students And...

Cultural Exchange in the Classroom: Benefits For Students and Teachers Ideally kids who are expected to become multilingual would be placed in classrooms where a teacher can speak their native language(s) and effectively communicate with the kids and the parents thereby validating the home language. Of course this isn’t always an option, and it surly wasn’t an option for my small town school. However, I believe that if the teachers could have handled the classrooms with a softer touch. By not attaching punishment to a cultural difference I think that the organic cultural exchange that begun when all the kids were allowed to speak freely (language wise, away) would have continued. As I stated, the punishing didn’t begin until a couple of years into grade school. When things changed I think it limited empathy development because suddenly there was a noticeable difference. This difference, I feel, limited all of the children because it made the English speakers uncomfortable with a difference and therefore stopped many of us from learning more about the other kids’ cultures and it made the Non-native English speakers feel resentful (I use to sit next at the same table as a few kids and when they were punished they would mutter – in English- that it wasn’t fair) and a resentful student is not likely to learn from the teacher regardless of the information being taught. Today, this new definition no longer holds true, because many women are misrepresented and confused by many new definitions of feminism. Nip the Buds, Shoot the Kids free essay sample

Fall Of Innocence and A Change In Identity Environment and surroundings can change a lot in people. Like Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, a few boys were stranded and alienated from the rest of the world and had a change in personality from their surroundings. The historical novel, Nip The Buds, Shoot The Kids by Kenzaburo Oe, contains a theme that is very similar to Lord Of The Flies in terms of losing innocence. Fifteen reformatory teenage boys were sent to a village to be evacuated out because of the war occurring at that time. When they arrive to the village, they get assigned a job to bury deceased animal carcasses, and as they do so, they find out that a deadly plague has broken out in that village. As soon as the other villagers hear about the plague, they all flee away from the area without any notice, leaving the boys alienated and they all begin to panic. The boys encounter a downfall of innocence and a change in personality through their environment, relationship, and from realizing their new tasks to survive. People throughout history have adapted their personality to their surroundings. Whether it is from other people or the environment around them, a part of anybody’s personality comes from their surroundings. For example, when the plague has been discovered and many people start to die, they all start to lose control as the narrator describes, â€Å"Suddenly a couple of us started shouting, clinging to the wooden door that led to the outside. That infected us all and set off a general panic. We yelled and banged on the door, pressing our bodies against it as if we wanted to be as far as possible from the corpse† (Oe 63). The narrator itself discusses how the boys were already beginning to panic, from viewing one death, and being quarantined. It is like a chain reaction of the boys: when one does something, the others do likewise. After the narrator views the death of many people around him, he thinks to himself, â€Å"‘Death’, for me, was my non-existence in a hundred years’ time and, in a few hundred years time, my non-existence in a boundless far future. Even in that distant future wars would break out, children would be sent to reformatories, some would prostitute themselves with homosexuals and some would have fairly healthy sex lives. But then I wouldn’t be there. Biting my lips, seething with anger, my chest constricted by anxiety, I pondered. By now, countless germs must be spurting out of the two corpses, making the air in the narrow valley glutinous† (88). The narrator over thinks too much about what may happen and it affects the way he acts. It affects the way he lives and responds to the other people around him, and that affects their ways of thinking, and it all leads into a chain reaction of thoughts. The way they respond with their surroundings is just like how they react with others around them. The relationship between each character has lead to a change in devotion towards each other, negatively and positively. For instance, Minami and the narrator fight more often than they usually do because of their different ideas on what is occurring. It is presented when the narrator explains, â€Å"’†¦you’re afraid of the plague. The village folk ran away terrified of the plague, abandoning us in the middle of swarms of germs. ’ (-Minami) The agitation caught everyone. I thought I must restore their balance. Otherwise they would become desperate and start getting violent. It was a pressing problem for me as well. ‘Plague? I never thought of anything like that’† (76). Minami believes the negative side because he is in a state of panic, while the narrator controls himself, and tries to maintain the mood of the other boys who are listening to their conversation. Through the days in the village, each of the boys have changed, leading to their own ideas and thoughts on what is occurring which have made them all have their own differences, leading to rivalries against each other. Another example is when the narrator’s brother’s dog dies, when the narrator illustrates, â€Å"The oak branch came down, and the dog collapsed on the snow with a thud. We all looked at it in silence. Biting his lips, eyes full of tears, his body shaken by sobs, my brother started to stagger forward. But he couldn’t look down at the twitching dog, whose black blood was gently soaking the fur over its ears† (152). The narrator’s brother’s dog most likely was contaminated with the plague, and the dog bit the girl that the narrator loves, so Minami believes that the dog will contaminate more people, so he decides to kill the dog, leaving the narrator’s brother heart broken. This act leads to a drastic emotional rollercoaster of the narrator’s brothers death because he seems to just give up on living, and after being heart broken, his feelings must have become even more crushed because he was never seen again. As it was mentioned earlier, most of the downfalls in this story occur from chain-reactions leading to one mass event. The teenage boys are alone and at a risk of death. The only thought that flows through their mind is survival. As young boys, they are not fully aware of their new â€Å"adult-like† tasks and have drastic personality changes through their time in the village. The narrator takes his job as a leader and presents a strong authority towards others when he presents, â€Å"You, stay inside, keep watch†¦ Stay and wait, I’ll punish anyone who comes out† (67-68). The narrator, trying his best to manage the rest, shows an act of command. He went from being a juvenile boy, to a young man to take control, which is a large transition of personality. On the other hand, Minami has tried to take authority in making things right, but at the same time, has gone too far and has caused extremes. For instance, when Minami talks about the narrator’s brother’s dog containing the plague, he states, â€Å"It’s your fault that the plague’s broken out. Everyone’ll die because of your dog† (151-152). Minami starts to over react about the dog containing the plague, and starts to aggressively yell at the narrator’s brother. This event led to the death/disappearance of the narrator’s brother, which could have been prevented, if Minami were to be a bit more cautious with his attitude. Small incidences like these lead to large downfalls just because of careless actions from a loss of innocence. Environment and surroundings can change a lot in people. Not only that, but also from relationships and a realization in a new authority changes the personalities and innocence in people. In Nip The Buds, Shoot The Kids, fifteen troublemaking young boys learn to adapt to their surroundings, respond to other people, and react to their surroundings, while being quarantined in a village contaminated with a deadly plague. Each of the boys has become someone completely different from who they were originally. It was an unexpected journey for all of them, yet through their environment and surroundings, relationship with others, and discovery of new tasks, they resulted in a new change of personality and some in a loss of innocence. Coronary Heart disease. Any heart disorder due to a restricted supply of blood to the heart muscle is called coronary heart disease. The most common symptom of heart disease is angina pain, which is when you get gripping pains in your left arms and around the chest area. A heart attack usually occurs quite suddenly, with either little or no warning. Chest pain may be a bit like that of angina but it is usually more severe and not necessarily brought on by exertion or relieved by rest. The patient or victim may also start to sweat, feel weak and even lose consciousness. If the attack completely stops the heart, this is known as cardiac arrest and death may follow. The severity of the heart attack depends on the amount of muscle affected and the health of the other coronary arteries. Coronary heart disease is commonly caused by narrowing of the coronary arteries by Atherosclerosis, a build-up of fatty deposits in the lining of the arteries. The process that leads to Atherosclerosis begins with the accumulation of excess fats and cholesterol in the blood. These substances fill the lining of arteries at sites of microscopic damage, forming deposits called atheroma. When the atheroma builds up, it narrows the arteries and eventually no blood will be able to flow through. To clear the arteries you can have two things done: theses are: Balloon Angioplasty which is where an incision is made in the patients arm or leg, through this a guide wire is pushed into the brachial [or femoral] artery. Using an X-ray or ultrasound guidance, the wire is then threaded into the affected coronary artery [via the aorta] to the blockage. At the blockage the wire is carefully moved in to place between the swollen walls and the small balloon which is attached to the guide wire is very sl owly filled with liquid this pushes against the pall and clears the passage. : Another way to clear the blocked artery is called Laser catheters. It is similar Balloon Angioplasty. It uses a laser for the unblocking. The mechanism is inserted into the artery to the problem area, a balloon like device expands stopping the flow of blood, then a tiny laser gets rid of the blockage.

How to Study for the Math Olympiad AMC 10/AMC 12 SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Have you ever wondered what it would take to represent America at the International Math Olympiad? Or maybe you’re a strong math student who is wondering what opportunities are available to you outside the classroom? In this article, we'll answer all your Math Olympiad questions! We’ll explain what it takes to qualify for the International Math Olympiad and how to ace the qualifying tests – the AMC 10 and AMC 12. How Do You Qualify for Math Olympiad? In this section we discuss the three key steps to qualifying for Math Olympiad. Step 1: Take the AMC 10 or AMC 12 The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are nationwide tests administered by the Mathematical Association of America that qualify you for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME). Only those with top scores will be invited to take the AIME.The MAA recommends 9thand 10thgraders take the AMC 10, and thand 12thgraders take the AMC 12. You can take the AMC 10 and/or 12 multiple times. The AMC 10 and AMC 12 each have 25 questions. You have 75 minutes for the entire exam. Each correct answer is worth 6 points (for a maximum score of 150) and each unanswered question is worth 1.5 points.There is no deduction for wrong answers. Note thatyou don’t need to get all of the questions right to get a qualifying score.You just have to do better than most of the other students taking the exam! Keep that in mind as you come up with a strategy for the test. Youneed to be in the top 5% of scorers on the AMC 12 or the top 2.5% of scorerson the AMC 10to qualify, so the vast majority of people who take the AMC exams don't qualify. But, if you do, you can take the AIME. Step 2: Take the AIME The AIME is a 15-question, three-hour exam, and each answer is an integer between 0 and 999, inclusive. Regardless of whether you took the AMC 10 or AMC 12, everyone takes the same AIME. It's offered once a year (with an alternate test date available for those who can't make the official exam date) in the spring.Unlike the AMC 10 and the AMC 12, you can only take the AIME once, so you want to make sure you do your best on it. After you take the AIME, your AIME score is multiplied by ten and added to your AMC score to determine if you qualify for Math Olympiad. The cutoff score for qualifying changes yearly, but it's set so about 260-270 students qualify for Math Olympiad each year. But even just taking the AIME can set you apart in the college admissions process, especially if you are interested in engineering programs. Along with a high GPA and strong SAT/ACT scores, taking the AIME is a way to signal to colleges you have superior math and problem-solving skills. How Can You Learn Math Olympiad Content? Math through pre-calculus covers most topics tested on the AMC 10 and 12 and the AIME, but math competition problems will be trickier than what you see on your usual math homework assignments. If you’re not up to pre-calculus in school yet, your first task will be learning the content before focusing on how to solve problems that the AMC 10 and 12 tend to ask. The key to doing well on AMC is not just knowing math and being able to do rote problems, but to know concepts inside and out and be able to use them to solve tricky problems. Think outside the textbook. The website Art of Problem Solving is a hub for math competition resources and problems, and has been mentioned by many former AMC-takers as a top resource. They have pages on learning to solve certain types of problems, advice on the best prep books, and forums where you can talk to other AIME hopefuls about studying and strategy. Concepts of Creativity and Critical Thinking Thinking Creatively, Thinking Critically (Group 3) Abstracts These days, people often use the phase of â€Å"Think out of the box†. Hence it related to term â€Å"creative thinking† and â€Å"critical thinking†. So, what are those term means? Why it is important to have these thinking skills? How does those kind of thinking fit in modern education benefit and does it benefit students especially? This paper will introduce to the creative and critical thinking not as definite, but to give an idea on what is it about. Next, apply it in Hong Kong context. 1.0  Introduction Its not easy to give an exact definition of creativity and critical thinking. Both aspects have varying of elements which have effects on the flow of the thinking. For creative thinking, lots of researchers came out with their own definition based on their findings. Gardner (1993) defines creativity as ‘the ability to solve problems and fashion new products and to raise new questions’. However, this definition does not cover the whole term of â€Å"creative†; creative is much more than that, but yes, it is a gist for others to branch out more on the term. Thus Gruber Wallace (1999) say that a creative idea ‘must be new and must be given value by some external criteria’ followed by Robinson (2001) describes creativity as ‘imaginative processes with outcomes that are original and of value’. Once the creative thinking has taken place, hence it leads to the next part which is critical thinking. When someone has use their creative thinking, critical thinking comes in and evaluates ideas to narrow down the focus made by creative thinking and pick idea where it is the most relevant and or have potential to succeed (Ruggiero, 1999). Encouraging students to think critically involves, among other things, helping them to distinguish opinions from facts, to evaluate evidence, and to avoid shallow and illogical thinking. This approach is very important in helping to avoid (by recognizing) manipulation, which in turn can allow intellectual independence and creativity to flourish (Browne Keely, 1993; Mayfield, 1997; Paul, 1995). According to Meyers (1986), he gives out four elements which are needed in learning environments to encourage the development of critical thinking. First and foremost, the stimulation of students’ interest. It is required for the students to taken li ke in a certain topic for them to study deeper in it. Student’s with interest is much better in developing their critical thinking. Secondly, the creation of meaningful discussion. Based on their liking, the students are more comfortable and confidence to talk about it. Thirdly, the exposure to the thoughts and views of others. In this session, the students will hear various opinions and feedback from others. They will learn how to react and give comments to those who agree or disagree with their opinion. Lastly, the fostering of a supportive and trusting atmosphere. These kind of discussion is giving out positive vibes in student for their development in critical thinking. They can gain more confidence and hence helps their mind to become more mature and open to other perspective and out of their comfort zone. 2.0  Combination of Critical and Creative Thinking The combination between two types of thinking namely critical and creative thinking had been research by many researchers in the world. According to Julie (2008), he stated that in education in order for the student to adapt with a changing world , he or she must change way of thinking different from the past. The benefits of this combination has been point out by many research such as can boots up student to take time to generate many ideas and argument , to ask penetrating questions and recognize the validity of arguments (Julie ,2008). 2.1Difference between Critical and Creative Thinking According to Fisher ( 2002 ) , he has listed possible term to differentiate critical and creative thinking based on figure 1. According to this figure, the tendency for the people to think critical is more on left brain and think creative on right brain. Kendra (n.s) stated that the right brain has more abilities in expressive and creative task while in the left brain is more to asking that involve logic, language and analytical thinking. But , according to Julie ( 2008 ) , in order to encourage the student to think creative and critical , an approach that can combine critical and creative thinking needed to implemented instead just focussing only the distinction. 2.2  Critical and Creative Thinking in Problem Solving Julie (2008) stated that the benefits of critical thinking is it can help student to figure out and evaluate information that can be found via internet and mass media due to function of left hemisphere of the brain that has logical and analytic qualities ( Adam . ns). In addition to, creative thinking also has benefits in which this type of thinking can improve student’s academic performance if the student can identified their creative abilities. In order to combine both creative and critical thinking, one of the approaches that can help student is using problem solving technique. Problem solving technique can be defined as a process in which we perceive and resolve a gap between a present situation and a desired goal, with the path to the goal blocked by known or unknown obstacles (William, n.s).According to King (2014) , to conduct problem solving technique , there are seven step that need to focus such as analyse the problem , imagine the solution , plan solution , apply the solution , evaluate the solution , improve the solution and implement the solution. 2.3  Critical and Creative Thinking in Level of Learning Bloom’s Taxonomy had been develop by Benjamin Bloom in order to increase higher forms of thinking in education, such as analysing and evaluating concepts, processes, procedures, and principles, rather than just remembering facts (rote learning). According to Julie (2008), bloom taxonomy consist of three domain namely affective (feeling, preferences and values) , psychomotor (physical and perceptual activities and skills) and cognitive (thinking , evaluating and synthesizing information). Julie (2008) stated that, bloom taxonomy (figure 3) consist of six categories or level which represented in a triangle. The first level which the largest section at the base in the triangle is called Knowledge. According to bloom, in education level 95 % of test question only test the student to think at this basic level. For example in the classroom setting, the question is more likely to ask â€Å"what is the definition of ..? †. According to Leslie, the verb that related to this level are define recall, memorize and know identify. The second level is known as comprehension which involve interpretation and classification of ideas. In this level, it more focusing on ability to create or interpret meaning from material such as report recognize, describe discuss and differentiate. For example question that related such as ‘which is the best answer..?’ and more like question in multiple choice exam. The third level is application which also can be defined as using l earned material in new situation. In this level, it more focusing to use learned material in new and specific solution.. In the classroom setting, the student will be test on question such as â€Å"how would you show your understanding of ..?†. The fourth level is analysis. Analysis can be defined as ability to differentiate material into component parts and present the relationship between those part. For example, the question that related to this level such as â€Å"what inferences that can you make from†. Synthesis which places in level five can explain by construct the ability to put ideas together to form new ways that unique, innovate and creative. The question such as â€Å"Can you predict the outcome if ..?† can be used in synthesis level. The last level is Evaluation in which the level more focusing on ability to conduct judgement and critique the worth of ideas based on reviewing and evidence. For example in the classroom , the question such as â€Å" Do you agree with the action / outcomes † can be used to understanding of evaluation level. 3.0 Malaysia Education System Generally, Malaysia education system is divided into two; pre-tertiary and tertiary education. Pre-tertiary that includes primary and secondary education is regulated under Ministry of Education (MOE) whereas tertiary education is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). Figure 4 According to Figure 4, primary education begins at age of seven and lasts for six years, referred to Year 1 up until Year 6. Students are promoted to the next year regardless of their academic performances. Furthermore, most students who had completed their primary education are admitted to go to secondary education. As secondary education lasts for five years, referred to as Form 1 to 5. As stated at Figure 4, secondary education are divided into two levels which is from Form 1 to Form 3, are known as Lower Secondary whereas Form 4 and Form 5 are known as Upper Secondary. The government have provides 11 years of primary and secondary education to students. After successful completion of 11 years of study, students are given the option to continue their studies in post-secondary schools to get a pre-university qualification (such as Matriculation programme) or further their study at higher level institution. 3.1  Gifted Education in Hong Kong Figure 5 The three-tier of gifted education framework was adopted in 2000. Based on this figure, the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) stated in Education Commission Report No.4 that Hong Kong should develop a school-based programme in mainstream schools. Hong Kong Academy of Gifted Education (HKAGE) has come up with these policy where they want to develop the potential of gifted students by providing them with opportunities to receive education at appropriate levels. According to Figure 5, here are the explanations; Level 1: A:To immerse the core elements advocated in gifted education i.e. High-order thinking skills, creativity and personal-social competence in the curriculum for ALL students; B:To differentiate teaching through appropriate grouping of students to meet the different needs of the groups with enrichment and extension of curriculum across ALL subjects in regular classrooms. Level 2: C:To conduct pull-out programmes of generic nature outside the regular classroom to allow systematic training for a homogeneous group of students (e.g. Creativity training, leadership training, etc.); D:To conduct pull-out programme in specific areas (e.g. Maths, Arts, etc.) outside the regular classroom to allow systematic training for students with outstanding performance in specific domains. Level 3: E:The HKAGE collaborates with tertiary institutions and other educational organizations / bodies to provide a wide and increasing range of programmes for exceptionally gifted students To cater the educational needs of gifted students, they advocate the following guiding principles: Nurturing multiple intelligences is a requirement of basic education for all students and should be part of the mission for all schools The needs of gifted children are best met within their own schools though it is recognized that opportunities to learn with similarly gifted students are important. Schools have an obligation to provide stimulating and challenging learning opportunities for their students The identification of gifted students should recognize the breadth of multiple intelligences Schools should ensure that the social and emotional, as well as the intellectual, needs of gifted children are recognized and met. 4.0  Conclusion The students must be given the motivation to think, the time to develop ideas, and the collaboration and support to encourage creative and critical thinking. Analysis of Capitalism: A Love Story Essay

Michael Moore is the writer and director of the highly relevant documentary film, Capitalism: A Love Story, which is a film explicating on the financial crisis during 2007-2010 as well as the other aspects such as the economic stimulus package with the government committed in resolving the economic order of the United States and capitalism. The approach used in the documentary film is the dialectic approach. This type of approach was best utilized in the documentary wherein it uses two contradicting ideas that try to overpower each other. The film narrates and explains on the financial crisis as well as of other topics that are encompassed in the film. However, a devil’s advocate that serves as an adverse critic emerges to challenge or question the points raised by the other. Thus, this causes a healthy discussion and arouses the critical thinking of the audience. The documentary film although appeals to the general public; however, the satirical sense of the documentary focuses on the personalities in the government as well as the people mainly involved in the fruition of the ideas discussed in the documentary film. Overall, the documentary film is an eye-opener for the public that leaves room for the audience to critic and think of. The fallacy in the documentary film is the contradicting definition of capitalism expressed in the film. The creator, Michael Moore, expressed the Marxists definition of capitalism and that it needs the state, which is the very opposite of the real definition of capitalism. However, as the film shows how the government dips its control through the different courses of actions in attempt to resolve the problem. The next part of your LinkedIn strategy involves figuring out who your target audience is. The important thing to remember is that LinkedIn is a B2B channel. You can’t just transfer your Facebook content to LinkedIn and call it good. This audience type needs to be catered to in a very specific way. Figuring out who will be part of your target audience involves thinking about: Who are they? What problems are they experiencing? Where are they experiencing their problems? Set Your Profile Picture Your profile picture should be your company logo and within the optimum  size image for LinkedIn. The standard size for LinkedIn is 400x400px. Utilize Your Banner Image Setting the right banner image can help bring more personality to your LinkedIn page. It can be standard like a CTA  or more unique, like a photo of your office: Make Sure Your Bio Is Completely Filled Out One of the most overlooked parts of any social profile is the biography. While this may seem like a small detail to deal with, having a bio that isn’t filled out is causing you to miss out on another opportunity to interact with your customer base. The nice thing about your LinkedIn bio is that it’s easy to edit with many parts of it allowing to drag and drop pieces in from your website. According to FindandConvert,  your business bio should include: A great company overview. You know better then anyone else what your company is all about. Take that space to tell your audience what you’re about. Do you have a mission statement or values that your company lives by? Add those in. Information about your products and services. What are you doing as a company that is setting you apart from the crowd? If a potential lead is experiencing a problem how can your company help solve it? If they don’t know what types of services you offer, why would they choose you? Recommendations.  92%  of people trust peer recommendations over advertising. Meaning why wouldn’t you showcase some of the recommendations you’ve received from your current clients. If someone is on the fence about your company, what better way could there be to persuade them. What does a great bio look like in real life? Check out this example from Bobcat: Establish Voice And Tone The next part of your strategy involves creating a professional voice and tone. What’s voice and tone, you ask? According to Buffer,â€Å"your voice is your brand personality described in an adjective while your tone adds a specific flavor to your voice depending on different factors or situations.† So let’s tackle voice first. What is your brand personality? Are you informative, thoughtful, political or purposeful? To help you get started, have your team write down three adjectives that describe your brand voice and together determine the final three that your company is going to embody online. Here is a list to help you get started if you’re stuck: Once you have your final three adjectives decided you can move on to developing a specific tone for LinkedIn. Tone is going to be more specific, as it’s going to define how your voice sounds on LinkedIn. If your overall voice is modest, how do you want that to come across to the professionals you try and connect with on LinkedIn. Are you going to be modest with a professional tone or modest but excited? Now instead of choosing three adjectives, you’re going to choose one overarching tone that a majority of your messages on LinkedIn will be in. Remember that your tone will switch from time to time, depending on the situation that you’re posting. How can you find that balance between being personal but professional? However, that expertise status doesn’t come overnight and will take careful execution to get it to stick. How Can You Solve The Problems Your Customers Are Experiencing One way to establish your authority in your industry is to show how your company can solve specific problems, better than your competitors. Remember as a B2B business,  your target audience isn’t going to make a split-second decision, so showing them how you stand out above everyone else can help sway your target audience your way. How can you stand out to your potential audience? See if your content answers the following questions: Is our content empathizing with their problem? Is our content creating an emotional connection to where our potential customer is at in their buyer journey? Is our content drawing a line from point A to point B that connects our audience members problems to our solution? If your content isn’t highlighting the answers to at least one of those questions, it may be time to go back to the drawing board and see how you can help lead your audience to the conclusion that you are the company to work with. Take the Hilton brand for example. They have thousands of hotels, and part of their target audience could be getting traveling business people to invest in a stay at them. Freely Share Your Knowledge To truly establish your authority on LinkedIn you need to be prepared to freely share your industry knowledge. What? That seems crazy, doesn’t it? Isn’t your insider knowledge something you’re supposed to keep to yourself? You could, but it wouldn’t help with your authority online. What can you do to freely share your knowledge with your audience? More importantly, how do you know when to hold information back? Share your knowledge when: It’s basic. What that means is that the information that you share with your audience may not be stuff they would know but other people in your industry would. Your customers are constantly experiencing a problem that you can show them how to fix. Why would you want to go and fix a 2 cent problem when you could show your audience how to fix it themselves? It saves their time and you get to focus on solving bigger problems. Don’t share your knowledge when: It’s a company secret.  If your company or brand has a secret way of doing something, like the Bush’s Baked Beans family recipe, you probably want to keep that to yourself. The topic is going to put their audience in over their heads.  If your solution is incredibly complex and would be difficult to do unless you had industry knowledge, keep that to yourself and have your customer contact you for help instead. Here's when you should (and shouldn't) share your knowledge on LinkedIn:A  great example of this, is one Jay Baer’s utilizes in his book Youtility.  According to Jay, Geek Squad has a ton of do-it-yourself  YouTube videos  that show people how to easily fix common computer tech problems. Jay explains that it might seem counterintuitive. Wouldn’t they want those people to come to them first? Not necessarily. Jay goes on to explain that eventually the person trying to fix their computer is going to become overwhelmed. Who are they going to turn to? A random computer company or the company they’ve already gotten all that information from? What could that look like on LinkedIn? Take for example. We’re constantly sharing information with our followers in order to give them the knowledge to create the best possible marketing content out there. Here's our 4-stage approach: http://cos.sc/2uHievh Share The Most Valuable Content Possible We have a motto  here at :â€Å"To be the best marketing blog on the web.† That same motto can apply to your LinkedIn content, but instead of just producing the best content, you’re going to share the best content too. What does the best content on LinkedIn look like? The best content out there should be: Well-researched.  Well-researched content is backed by a plethora of different credible sources. What’s a credible source? This image from Contents  Magazine  breaks down the best types of credible sources that should be included in content that you share. Highly informative.  According to Roger Bryan, your content needs to to be unique and useful to your target audience. If you’re creating content that just rehashes what others have already said on the subject, you’re not informing your audience of anything because it’s information they already know. Authoritative. Isn’t that the same thing well-researched content? Not exactly. Authoritative content is the authority of your content overall; not just a single post. How much can people trust the content that you post to your LinkedIn page? You can build that  credibly  with your audience through publishing reliable, well-researched content. Utilize Your Highly Informative Content To Successfully Target Your Audience There are three key pieces that your content needs to follow for your company to successfully target your audience on LinkedIn. According to Content Marketing Institute  those types of content are: User generated content: Content that comes directly from your target audience. Expert content: Content that comes from industry experts. Branded content: Content that comes from your company. Is This Content Focused On a Topic That My Audience Cares About? If you’re creating content that’s outside your audience’s scope, why would they take the time to read it? Their time is already precious and limited; they’re not going to waste in on an article that has nothing to do with them. So how do you find topics that your audience cares about? Look to the influencers in your industry. How can I find influencers in my industry? Usually, a Google search will pull up major influencers in your industry. However, you can also check out popular LinkedIn groups to see who is having some major pull with your audience. What are they talking about that is causing other people to respond or share their content? If you want to be direct, survey your audience straight from your LinkedIn page. Ask what they want to hear and see you post about. How? LinkedIn doesn’t have a built-in polling feature like Twitter does but you can still create a poll through a tool like SurveyMonkey  or Google Forms. Most of these tools will have in form analytics which will allow you to gather data on your audience’s responses. Some common questions you could add into the survey are: What topics are we talking about that you enjoy us covering? What would you like to see us cover more? What would you like to know about our products and or our company? Set An Attainable Posting Schedule There are recommendations everywhere that give you a suggested optimum posting schedule.  While those are usually great starts the number of times your business needs to post to LinkedIn will depend on one thing, your audience. Your audience will tell you  how often you need to post to LinkedIn through how often they interact with your content. What? You’ll see strong or weaker interactions on your messages. For example, if you post five times a day and get three responses but then you post three times a day and get ten responses, that is a subtle way your audience is telling you what want they want to see from you. â€Å"But what if I want to know what an average posting schedule looks like?† According to 14 different studies  and our internal research, the following would be the start of an optimum posting schedule for LinkedIn:
